Partnering with local developers to create 50 new, fully accessible housing units designed for independence, in partnership with City Housing.
Finding safe, affordable, and accessible housing is one of the greatest challenges facing low-income families, parents, and caregivers in Uyo and across Akwa Ibom State. The Accessible Living Project was born out of a critical need to bridge this gap.
By leveraging MEWAYZ's community support capacity and collaborating closely with City Housing and local private developers, we are not just building apartments; we are building a foundation for independence.
Each of the 50 new units goes beyond standard ADA compliance. They feature universal design principles such as zero-step entries, adjustable countertops, smart home automation for lighting and temperature control, and roll-in showers. These features empower residents to live with dignity and autonomy.
The current phase involves the construction of the primary residential complex, slated for completion in late 2026.
Phase 2 will focus on community integration, including the development of a shared community center adjacent to the housing, offering job training workshops and social events open to the wider neighborhood to foster inclusivity.
