What started as a small monthly meetup has blossomed into a weekly event that dozens of community members look forward to with anticipation. Every Saturday morning, participants gather at local coffee shops, parks, or the MEWAYZ community center to share stories, play board games, and simply enjoy each other's company without the pressure of therapeutic outcomes or rigid schedules.
"It's not just about passing time," explains Sarah Jenkins, a program coordinator at MEWAYZ. "It's about building the social skills and confidence that translate into other areas of life. We've seen participants become more vocal advocates for themselves because they practice communication here in a safe, fun space."
"I used to stay home a lot on weekends. Now I have my crew. We laugh, we talk about our week. It's the best part of my week because I know I'm going to see my friends."
